The history of the Korat cat begins in ancient Siam (now Thailand) with the earliest depiction of a Korat being in the ancient book of cat poems known as the Tamra Maew in Bangkok's National Library.
The Tamra Maew is believed to have been written in the Ayudhya Period of Siamese history (1350-1767). It shows seventeen cats, whose ownership brings good fortune and six that are bad. Among the Good Luck cats is the Korat.
It is believed that some Korats were shown in England in the late 1800s but were named as Blue Siamese because that is where the owner imported them from. The cats of the 1800s were listed as solid blue and judging descriptions can still be found which back up the theory that these cats were indeed Korats.
