According to the study figures released to the press, treatment with corticosteroids allowed a reduction in deaths of 35% for patients who used respirators and 20% for those who needed other type of respiratory support.

“The benefit of survival is clear and wide-ranging in these patients who were sick enough to need oxygen treatment. So, dexamethasone can now become standard in the care of these patients, ”said Peter Horbny, one of the authors of the research.

For scientists, dexamethasone could have prevented 5,000 deaths in the UK, had it been used since the start of the pandemic. The British currently record more than 41,000 victims of Covid-19.
